How the job usually goes

  1. Step 1: Tell us the symptom

Sticking, dropping, not latching. A short video of the door moving helps a lot.

  2. Step 2: Find the cause

Often a loose hinge screw or a swollen edge, rather than the door itself.

  3. Step 3: Adjust or repair

Hinges packed, screws re-seated, edges eased and sealed, handles fitted.

  4. Step 4: Check it closes

We open and close everything we touched before we pack up.

Good to know. Fire doors in flats and new builds have their own rules about hinges, closers and handles. Check with your building manager before changing them. We do not replace door frames or fit external doors.

“The kitchen doors all line up again and the bath sealant looks new. Sending the list with photos made the price simple to agree.”

Joanne, GosforthCupboard doors and sealant
My cupboard doors do not line up. Can you fix them?

Usually, yes. Most modern hinges have screws for height, depth and side to side. A few turns on each hinge often brings a row of doors back into line.

Can you fix a door that sticks?

Yes. We find where it catches, then take a little off the edge or adjust the hinges. Bare wood is sealed afterwards so it does not swell again.

Will new handles fit the old holes?

Only if the spacing matches. If it does not, we drill new holes and fill the old ones. Tell us the hole spacing of the new handles when you send your list.

Can you hang a brand new door?

We rehang existing doors on new hinges. Fitting a new door from scratch, with cutting to size and new hinge recesses, is usually a better job for a joiner.
